The austrian program for supporting security research (KIRAS ) funds national research efforts for improving security for all members of society (KIRAS). x-pin.com submitted a successful proposal for program line 3 together with prominent research partners like Austrian Research Centers GmbH - ARC, Vienna Airport AG and IFES. This resulted in the ASaP - Airport Security and Productivity - "Enhancing Airport Security based on Biometric Travel and Novel Methods to ease Airport Operations", the largest project ever funded by KIRAS.

Highlight of the Wincor World 2009

The crush was internationally strong both, from visitors and from exhibitors, for the fair of the Wincor World of 20. - 22.1.2009 in Paderborn. IT-solutions of the future were presented, with which banks and trading ventures reach process improvements. Wincor Nixdorf presented 7,000 banking customers from all over the world the ATM with x-pin face recognition technology. 40 banks showed large interest and from those costumers we will start in 4 countries pilot projects within this year. From the asked customers the majority expressed itself clearly against the use of finger prints, since customer acceptance and reliability is not ensured. Therefor is a very good chance that the face recognition is offered as generally accepted standard to be established.

Three ATMs equipped with x-pin facial biometrics for beta testing

Verification of persons has always been an important topic in accessing sensitive areas such as vaults or computing centers, where unauthorized access could do severe damage.

Currently, three ATMs in the Vienna, Graz and Salzburg area are equipped with x-pin facial recognition for beta testing. Upon successful verification by the facial recognition software, money can be withdrawn as usual. Illegitimately acquired ATM cards and a spied PIN code are thus worthless and withdrawals are protected effectively by our system.

Smart Access is an autonomously working access control system

The system permits access by authorized persons on the basis of the human face. Among other things, it consists of a so-called x-ball wall module, into which real-time-capable components are integrated. The camera is sensitive to infrared light, whereupon an integrated infrared flash illuminates the person. A likewise integrated card reader serves to identify the person unambiguously. The Smart Access system communicates via Ethernet and can thereby also be used at large spatial distances.
